Bryn Mawr Hospital One Day Prepared Childbirth

This one-day class is an alternative for couples who are unable to attend the three-week series due to time constraints or fluctuating schedules. The content is the same as the Prepared Childbirth series, but taught in an accelerated fashion.

A tour of the labor/delivery/maternity area is also included. If you are registering for a 3 week or One Day Prepared Childbirth Class, please do not register for a separate tour, as a tour is included in your class. The hospital tours are reserved for expectant couples. Other family members can visit you in maternity after the arrival of your new baby

You should bring 2 bed pillows to the class. There will be a break for lunch, but lunch is not included in the registration fee. You may bring a lunch or purchase something in the cafeteria.

This one-session class for children focuses on the role of the big brother or sister and includes a tour of the nursery and maternity unit.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. For children between three and seven years old.

Children must have had the chicken pox or been vaccinated before attending the tour of the maternity unit.

Bryn Mawr Hospital Advanced Comfort Measures

This interactive 2 hour class will discuss comfort measures beyond the breathing and relaxation techniques that are taught during the regular Prepared Childbirth classes. . Topics to be discussed and practiced will include birth balls, massage and pressure points, hot and cold therapies, and additional positions and non-medical techniques for comfort and aiding in the progression of labor and birth. Class participants are encouraged to bring 2 bed pillows, a hand or bath towel and a birth ball to class. This class is in addition to the basics taught during Prepared Childbirth classes. Completion at a traditional Prepared Childbirth Series or One Day Class or having given birth within the last 5 years is a pre-requisite to attending this class. Basic breathing and relaxation techniques are not taught during this class. Fee: $35 per couple

Completion of a traditional prepared childbirth class is required prior to attending the Advanced Comfort Measures Class since the information in the Advanced Comfort Measures Class builds on the knowledge and skills learned in a traditional childbirth preparation class.

Classes focus both on the physical and emotional aspects of labor and delivery with an emphasis on breathing and relaxation techniques. The instructor will discuss the natural progression of labor and delivery, provide information on labor including medication and anesthesia options, discuss the role of support person, prepare participants for the possibility of cesarean birth
